The driver of the mini van in Saturday's suicide was Royal Lea, 71, Milton. Captain Tony Tindall said a minor hit and run was called into dispatch at the corner of Elmira and Highway 90, and a vehicle matching the description was spotted nearby. An officer pulled Lea over to question him in front of Hall's Hardware. Tindall said the officer approached the vehicle and asked Lea for license and registration, although Lea did not lower his window. Lea turned his back to the officer, reports said, causing the officer to move to get a better look inside the vehicle when he heard a pop. Tindall said Lea shot and killed himself inside the mini van.
