LETTER: Fracking is safely regulated

Dear editor,

Think fracking is being conducted in an every-man-for-himself Wild West-like environment?

Think again.

Fracking is carried out under the rules of a laundry list of federal regulation, including the Clean Water Act, the Safe Drinking Act, the Clean Air Act, the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Fracking has been used safely in more than 1 million wells, and has been continuously improved over time. The oil and natural gas industry constantly applies the best practices for safety and the environment with each new well.

According to the EPA, the fracking process has never caused a water contamination incident, and America is the world’s No. 1 producer of oil and natural gas because of fracking.

Rather than focus on nonexistent evidence of pollution, let us continue the American energy renaissance, knowing that it is being done safely under the watchful eye of Uncle Sam.
