Since primary care is often the entry point at which mental health and behavioral health issues are first identified, primary care doctors have a unique opportunity to engage patients in behavioral health treatment with fewer barriers to getting appropriate care.

Evidence suggests that if more behavioral health problems could be screened and addressed in the primary care setting, there would be improvements in health outcomes, patient satisfaction and management of many other chronic diseases.
