No taxpayer bailout for corporate-induced welfare

Dear editor,

In 2015, Walmart made almost $15 billion in profits. Taxpayers pay about $1 million per store for worker subsidies due to low pay. Taxpayers pay around $7 billion per year for Walmart worker subsidies due to low pay.

Corporate America is allowed to pay wages so low that American taxpayers pay $153 billion every year for worker subsidies. For workers, the minimum wage, adjusted for inflation, is 24 percent lower than it was in 1965.

Could your school, county roads, education, healthcare or VA hospital benefit from part of $153 billion?

The American middle class is being destroyed by corporate America while being placed on the back of the American taxpayer.

How can these millions of low-wage workers help build a robust economy if they cannot even pay their bills?

How can American taxpayers contribute toward a robust economy if they are required to bail out corporate America to the tune of billions of dollars every year?

President Trump and the Republican leadership plan to substantially sweeten corporate America’s pot, claiming they will contribute to a robust economy.

Where is the outrage?
