Celebrate Freedom race, fun run return to Jay

JAY — The 18th Annual Celebrate Freedom 5K and One Mile Fun Run is set July 4.

The event begins 8 a.m. at Jay City Park, 5259 Booker Lane. The advance entry fee is $20; race-day entry is $25. One Mile Fun Run entry is $10. T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 75 runners who register.

The race starts and finishes at Jay City Park. The mostly flat course offers scenic running through the neighboring countryside and loops Jay Elementary and Jay High School. The last half is on a paved road that splits through cotton and peanut fields.

Panhandle Butterfly House sets 'Make More Milkweed' class

NAVARRE — The Panhandle Butterfly House is offering a class on propagating milkweed.

The event is set 10:30 a.m. until noon July 8 at 8581 Navarre Parkway in Navarre at the foot of the Navarre Beach Bridge.

Milkweed is the host plant that monarch caterpillars eat. Class attendees will learn how to plant milkweed from seed and make cuttings from existing plants.

The cost is $5 and covers all supplies and plants that go home with participants. Those interested in the program should register and purchase tickets at the Butterfly House by July 5.

Baptist Health Care sets blood drive

GULF BREEZE — Baptist Health Care will host a blood drive provided by One Blood, a blood bank, from noon to 4 p.m. July 19 at Gulf Breeze Hospital, 1110 Gulf Breeze Parkway.

All donors will receive a gift. Donors must be age 16 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. Photo identification is required.
