MILTON — Chief of Police Tony Tindell announced today that on 07-15-17 at about 3:45 a.m. officers responded to Cedar Ridge subdivision in reference to a report of a vehicle burglary in progress.
The caller gave a clothing description and when officers arrived, a black male fitting the description was seen walking away from a vehicle. The subject was taken into custody.
When searched, a loaded handgun was found on his person. Also, within the suspect’s possession was a bottle of prescription medication belonging to one of the burglary victims as well as a large amount of cash.
The vehicle the suspect was walking away from was identified as stolen. During the vehicle search officers recovered more stolen items and a loaded handgun. A second suspect was involved and is being sought for pointing a handgun at a resident who was checking his vehicle.
With the assistance of the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office K-9, a perimeter was set up, however the second suspect was not located.
The suspect in custody, a 16-year-old juvenile, was charged with Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Armed Burglary, Vehicle Theft, Possession of Stolen Property and Resisting an Officer. He was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Chief Tindell contends that if the public should see anyone suspicious around their vehicles, especially at night, please contact law enforcement immediately. Do not approach the suspect.
