MILTON — The Milton Cemetery Board has joined the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place Thursday at the Berryhill Road location.
Chamber President Donna Tucker said she is excited about the board's new membership.
"I am thrilled they've joined," Tucker said. "We get a lot of phone calls from people inquiring about their relatives and family being [buried at the cemetery], so it's wonderful that they're taking this on and they're doing projects here and bringing recognition to it. It's a pride thing; we have a lot of history here.
"We are thrilled to have them on board so we can get information to people who are calling and we can help them be successful with this."
Pam Mitchell is the current chairman of the Cemetery Board; Mitchell took over following Bill Bledsoe's death earlier this year.
Duties of the board, which is composed of 10 members, include:
- Maintaining and enhancing the landscaping and appearance of the cemetery
- Coordinating burial ceremonies and monument settings
- Coordinating opening and closing of grave sites
- Meeting the needs of clients and potential clients
- Coordinating records management with the city clerk
- Determining rules and policies relating to the operation and maintenance, as approved by the City Council
- Making recommendations to the City Council in regard to upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery
- Selling, repurchasing or trading lots and spaces.
