Navarre Garden Club opens new year

Emily Peterson [Special to the Press Gazette]

NAVARRE — The first meeting of the new fiscal year for the Navarre Garden Club will feature former long-time owner of the Garden Gate Emily Peterson speaking on “Edible Trees.”

The meeting will begin with a social period from 8:45 – 9:15 a.m. Sept. 5 with the official meeting starting at 9:15. The speaker is first on the agenda, finishing up about 10:10, followed by a short break. This year, the club will meet at the Elks Lodge, 2002 Elks Way, off Highway 98 behind the Shrimp Basket.

Members of the general public, who wish to listen to the speaker, but not attend the meeting, are welcome to do so.

The 42-year-old Navarre Garden Club has four main goals:

  • To educate members and the general public in Florida-friendly horticulture, floral design, and environmental concerns
  • To beautify the community
  • To protect the environment and its critters
  • To promote these values for the future

The club is currently seeking new members who agree with the club goals and are willing to work toward them with plenty of fun in the process.
