MILTON — During Thursday morning thunderstorms, a home near Sims Middle School was struck by lightning causing a fire.
According to Chief Bobby Whitfield with Pace Fire Rescue District, the fire department received a call at 7:28 a.m. about a fire on the 3700 block of Pace Mill Way. Firefighters from Pace, Avalon Fire Rescue and Skyline Fire Department were dispatched at 7:30 a.m. and arrived at the scene at 7:34 a.m., according to Whitfield.
According to Whitfield, residents were home during the time of the lightning strike, but there were no injuries.
The fire was contained to a bedroom, but there is smoke damage throughout the home, Whitfield said.
