MILTON — The Milton High drama season opens 7 p.m. Thursday with “Ten X Ten,” a series of 10 10-minute plays under 10 student directors, according to drama instructor Jennifer Bunnell.
“This is our fundraiser to kick off the year,” Bunnell said. “We have 10 advanced students directing. With 10 different directors, all 10 can rehearse at the same time.”
Students were allowed to choose the plays — as long as they were school-appropriate and low-cost. The variety of genres include comedy, history, dramatic and artistic plays.
“They needed to find shows we can costume and get sets for because we have no budget…" Bunnell said. "The next play will be a big-budget play. This is part of our year. We do lots of different shows."
The next show will be a combination of Shakespeare and reality television called “Midsummer/Jersey.”
Bunnell found that letting her advanced students direct gave them an opportunity to take leadership and more responsibility.
“They have to work together. They still have to get a show.”
Bunnell said she would rather not describe the synopsis of each performance, but instead she would like to describe the plays as 10 10-minute plays with a little something for everyone.
"There are moments to make you laugh and moments to make you choke up; teens playing children, senior citizens, and animals; students performing in their very first play and experienced students who have been in more than a dozen," Bunnell said. "It’s two hours of great entertainment that keeps zipping along."
Show times for “Ten X Ten” are 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $5.
