MILTON — Cole Weathersbee, a Milton native and senior at Milton High School, recently won an all-expenses-paid trip to the United States capital through a school-wide contest.

Here, we catch up with Cole about his involvement in school and the community, his accomplishments and his aspirations.

Tell me about the trip to Washington, D.C. that you’re taking.

It’s a trip to Washington D.C. in April with some of my other peers from Milton and I’ll be going with one of my former teachers and good friend, Mrs. Chism. She also sponsors the History Club that I personally founded and am serving my third term as president.

From what I understand, we will be sitting through a session of Congress and observing the political platforms and sectors within D.C. We will also be going to the White House and the multiple monuments there in D.C.

Other than History Club, are you involved in any other clubs or extracurricular activities at your school?

I’m in FFA (Future Farmers of America), ASH (Association of Student Historians) and I’m on Senior Board. I’m wrestling this year, too.

How long have you been on the Milton Youth Council, and what made you want to join?

I’ve been on it for about a year and a half now and I just had always been a politician. My whole family has dubbed me that title, and after all, my Uncle was Benny Russell, so it only makes sense I was just attracted to the idea that I could be involved early in a form of government and get my name out there and involve myself in the community.

What do you want to do as a career?

I’m going to go to [school to] be a CPA (Certified Public Accountant).

Do you know what college you will attend?

I’m not exactly sure what school yet, but I certainly have a few that I can decide from that I have had some positive feedback from. I can almost guarantee it will be an SEC school though.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love spending time with my girlfriend, Sarah, who’s also on the city council. I like watching football on Saturdays with my buddies and hunting and fishing and going to the gym.
