MILTON — Santa Rosa County Tax Collector Stan Nichols, since taking office in 2009, has regularly returned his office’s unspent revenue.
Nichols returned $552,979 to the county Monday at the Commission Committee meeting. The board’s share of this amount is $539,584.36.
Additionally, $3,897.87 goes to the Holley-Navarre Fire District, $1,441.94 to the Avalon Fire District, $7,255.08 to the Midway Fire District, and $799.77 to the Northwest Florida Water Management District.
“We work hard at the tax collector’s office to be frugal,” Nichols said, "to do more with less. We’re excited to be able to come back before the board each year with funds we don’t use.”
This money will go back into the general fund reserves, according to the county.
