$38,500 comes to Jay in two state grants

JAY — The town of Jay will receive two grants from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. Those are a $16,000 Community Planning Technical Assistance grant for the town's water infrastructure system as well as a $22,500 Competitive Florida Partnership grant.

According to FDEO Director of Community Development Julie Dennis, the department received 115 requests for assistance totaling close to $4 million.

With the grant for the infrastructure, Governor Rick Scott said that this will provide future job opportunities for the town. 

"Providing resources to support job creation in our rural communities plays a vital role in our state’s continued growth,” he said. 

Eric Seid, Jay operations manager, said the town was excited to work with the DEO’s Competitive Florida Partnership team. 

"The DEO team will assist the town leadership and current business owners, working as a team, to present economic development ideas that will create additional jobs in our small town," Seib said in an email. "We are humbled to be selected by the state and anxious to tap into their expertise to plan for future growth."

Municipalities in addition to Jay awarded with grants included Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, Citrus County, Cocoa, DeFuniak Springs, Indian River County, Suwannee County, Taylor County, Volusia County and Washington County.
