Santa Rosa County Extension sets free landscaping class

MILTON — Experts from the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Santa Rosa County Extension Office will offer a class on landscaping.

The free session is available without registration at two locations:

•10 a.m. Nov. 9 at the Santa Rosa County UF-IFAS Extension Office, 6263 Dogwood Drive in Milton

•10 a.m. Nov. 17 at the Gulf Breeze Library, 1060 Shoreline Drive in Gulf Breeze

Mary Salinas, UF-IFAS Extension Santa Rosa County residential horticulture agent, will discuss how to implement the nine principles of Florida-friendly landscaping to have a healthier yard, reduce labor and expenses and protect water resources.

ReptiDay brings reptile breeders, experts to Navarre

PENSACOLA — ReptiDay is the one-day version of events presented by Repticon, which hosts reptile and exotic animal expos throughout the United States.

The annual event returns to Santa Rosa County 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Navarre Conference Center.

Attendees can learn about animals not often seen in local pet stores during seminars by experts in the field of herpetology. In addition, guests can shop for a new family pet among the hundreds of reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, spiders and small exotic animals.

ReptiDay Pensacola is also the place for them to get merchandise, cages, supplies, live and frozen feeders, as well as expert advice about caring for their new household member. Many vendors allow live interactions with the pets during visits to their booth.

Free-entry raffles are held frequently throughout the event, offering guests the opportunity to win prizes.

At the door, tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-12, and children under 5 are admitted free. VIP early-entry tickets are available at http://repticon.com/florida/reptiday-pensacola/.

Woodbine Baptist sets Harvest Festival

PACE — Woodbine Baptist Church has scheduled a Harvest Festival.

The event is 4-6 pm. Nov. 11 at 4912 Woodbine Road, Pace.

Free hotdogs, chili and hot chocolate will be available. Attendees can enjoy a hayride, bounce house, games, crafts, face painting, candy, live music, cakewalk and popcorn.

Vendors, artists and crafters sought for fair

MILTON — St. Mary’s Episcopal Church seeks artists and crafters for its annual Winter Arts and Crafts Fair.

This event is set noon to 7 p.m. Dec. 1 and from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the historic church on 6849 Oak St., in Milton. The church seeks vendors to showcase their handiwork including custom jewelry, art, woodcrafts and candles.

Inside booth space is available for $45 for both days and includes one 6-foot table. Outside booths are $20 for one day and $35 for both. Set-up will be from 9-11:30 a.m. Dec. 1. Space is limited. Use of electricity costs $5.

Santa Rosa Art Association offers art grants

MILTON — The Santa Rosa Art Association Inc. is offering up to $200 art grants to individual classroom teachers in any discipline and up to $300 for teams or grade-level teachers in any discipline in Santa Rosa County for use in the 2017-2018 school term.

The money used must fund art education projects of some kind — whether that involves art creation, history or appreciation — and teachers must produce tangible proof of completion.

Teachers applying for a grant may submit as individuals or as a team, may be assigned to any grade level, and do not have to be art teachers.

Business offering $55K in scholarships for high school seniors

GULF BREEZE — Mediacom Communications is offering $55,000 in scholarships to support high school seniors planning to further their education. In its 17th consecutive year, the company's scholarship program will award $1,000 World Class Scholarships to 55 high school seniors.

Scholarship recipients can use the financial award to support educational expenses for higher education or vocational training from any accredited post-secondary institution starting in the fall of 2018. Award selection is based on academic achievement and leadership.

Applications for the company's World Class Scholarships are available at www.mediacomworldclass.com. All high schools in the business' served communities received informational cards asking school officials to make seniors aware of the scholarship and encourage submission of applications on or before the Feb. 16, 2018 deadline. 

Applicants do not have to be the company's customers but must live in areas where the business provides broadband, video, phone and other digital communication services.
