Pace basketball teams to raise breast cancer awareness

PACE — The Pace Lady Patriot Basketball Boosters Inc. has scheduled the 2nd Annual Patriots Join the Fight, One Shot at a Time Cancer Awareness Night.

The Pace Lady Patriots Basketball team, along with the Lady Patriot Basketball Boosters and the Pink Pirates of Navarre, will pay tribute to people battling breast cancer.

Pace’s teams will play the Milton Panthers on Thursday, Dec. 7 at Pace High School. The junior varsity game is at 5:30 p.m.; the varsity game is at 7 p.m.

"We ask that fans wear pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness," a Pace boosters media release states.

Commemorative T-shirts will be sold at concessions. Proceeds from the T-shirt sales will be donated to the Pink Pirates of Navarre, a non-profit group benefiting those with breast cancer.

Pace’s team will wear pink uniforms, sponsored by Pace Plumbing. In addition, there will be contribution canisters when you walk into the game.

The school is located at 4065 Norris Road, Pace.

The American Cancer Society's estimates for breast cancer in the United States follow:

  • About 246,660 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women for the year.
  • Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in women. (Only lung cancer kills more women each year.)
  • The chance that a woman will die from breast cancer is about 1 in 36 (about 3 percent)
