MILTON — A TH-57 helicopter from NAS Whiting Field made a precautionary landing on the Santa Rosa County Creek Indian Tribal Grounds Thursday morning. The helicopter landed just inside the property's gate at 4750 Willard Norris Road.
"It was a precautionary landing, just to be on the safe side," Whiting Field public affairs officer Julie Ziegenhorn said.
Ziegenhorn did confirm the aircraft was from Whiting Field and there were no injuries. Whiting crews would truck the TH-57 back to the base she said.
"We put safety first, for the pilot and the community," Ziegenhorn said. Ziegenhorn not have information on what caused the landing or squadron information.
The property's caretaker, Standing Wolf, said he did not see the landing. "I was in the back on the phone," Wolf said.
Wolf and an unidentified pilot were sitting on the front porch waiting for maintenance crews to arrive and take the helicopter and pilot back to Whiting.
The pilot referred all questions to the Whiting Public Affairs Office.
