FemFest plans return to West Florida

PENSACOLA — West Florida feminists can attend FemFest, which returns to Pensacola for its second year, Feb. 12–18, 2018.

Events will include a film festival featuring titles from female directors and spotlighting feminist issues; a body-positive event and a discussion panel featuring members of the Social Transgender Initiative, or STRIVE.

This year will also mark the return of one of FemFest’s most popular events, Womanhood in Lavender, a night of singing, poetry, dancing and visual art centered on black women and their diverse experiences.

In addition, the event will debut a production of "The Will of Women," a play about Shakespearean feminism, written and produced by Pensacola’s newest theater company, Arrant Knavery.

FemFest will partner once again with Lakeview Center’s Sexual Assault Prevention Program as one of the event’s beneficiaries. Other beneficiaries include the Black Women Empower Collective and STRIVE.

Since 2016, FemFest organizers have raised almost $10,000 for local non-profits. All proceeds raised during FemFest will go directly to providing resources to these programs.

The official lineup of events will be announced later in December.
