MILTON — For the ninth year, Ollie’s Neighborhood Grill hosted a car show and chili cook-off on the first Saturday of December to support a local charity.
The charity of choice, for the second consecutive year, was Santa Rosa Kids’ House, a non-profit child advocacy center serving Santa Rosa County since 2003. Proceeds from the chili cook-off went to the organization, and the entry fee for the car show was a new unwrapped toy.
Dozens of cars lined the Ollie’s parking lot; among them were two cars belonging to the Milton Police Department.
"It’s important to get out here in the community," Officer James Gagnon said. "People don’t usually get to look at our cars up close, and when they do, it’s not for a good reason."
A truck from Sandy and Bubba’s Milton Chevrolet collected donated toys that are to be distributed to children at the Kids’ House.
Jon Anderson, Ollie’s owner, said he decided to organize this fundraiser because it’s important to support local charities.
"It’s good to keep the money local," Anderson said. "Plus, it’s fun."
