Catching up with Gulf Breeze High's all-star football players

Editor's note: This continues our series on Santa Rosa County's student athletes selected for the 2017 Subway High School All-Star Football Team. 

GULF BREEZE — Deems Edlund, Jacob Tisdale and Bryce Callahan of Gulf Breeze High School are among the 21 athletes in Santa Rosa County selected to join the 2017 Subway High School All-Star Football team.

Gulf Breeze players Walter Yates and Noah Young received invitations to play on the team but Yates has another engagement and Young may not play, according to GBHS football Coach Bobby Clayton.

The Subway High School All-Star Series is a sequence of games between high school senior athletes from Okaloosa, Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. The main football game is set Dec. 15 at the Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola. 

Here, we catch up with the high school seniors on making the all-star team, their everyday lives and their aspirations.

How long have you been playing football?

DE: 12 years.

JT: 10 years.

BC: 10 plus years.

What’s the best part of football?

DE: Winning the game honestly and just going on the field having a good time.

JT: Winning.

BC: I like the speed, the intensity of it, how fast-paced it is.

What’s the worst part of football?

DE: Conditioning, weightlifting.

JT: Definitely losing.

BC: Losing (because) if you really love your team and the sport it can get pretty emotional.

What is your favorite football experience?

DE: From last year when we beat Navarre for [the] first time in nine years.

JT: My favorite experience was winning the district championship last year.

BC: Scoring my first high school touchdown (which was) this year.

What are your hobbies outside football?

DE: Playing video games.

JT: I’m on the wrestling team.

BC: I like to mountain bike.

Do you want to play college football? If so, where?

DE: I haven’t really looked at college ball. I’ve only talked to one school and don’t think I’ll play.

JT: Yes, I want to play. I have some schools showing interest but I haven’t made a decision yet.

BC: I haven’t decided. I could play for Millsaps but I’m not sure yet.

What’s your dream career?

DE: I’ll probably be an optometrist like grandfather.

JT: I do not have a dream career. (My college) major would be something in engineering.

BC: I’m not sure (but I’ll major in) business in college.

What is your favorite television show?

DE: "Sports Center."

JT: "Daredevil" on Netflix.

BC: "Family Guy."

What is your favorite band or musician?

DE: AC/DC.

JT: Smashmouth.

BC: Quavo.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

DE: Flying so I could skip traffic.

JT: Power of flight for no reason.

BC: Invisibility so I could actually do whatever I want.
