PACE — Santa Rosa County contractor Panhandle Grading & Paving has started construction on a drainage improvement project to help alleviate flooding around Pace Lane, Patterson Lane and Faircloth Street in the Pea Ridge community.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of June 2018.
The project includes installation of drainage inlets, construction of additional stormwater ponds, modifications to the existing stormwater pond, and construction of associated pipe network and surface ditches allowing for additional storage.
"The $1,034,875 contract is funded with a combination of Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding and local option sales tax," said Dan Schebler, assistant county administrator. "The half-cent infrastructure surtax will be leveraged with HMGP funding over the next few years to implement another $10 million in drainage projects."
Following the historic flooding of April 2014, the county applied for federal funding to improve drainage in this area. This project is the ninth large-scale project to be implemented with HMGP funding in the last seven years to improve drainage countywide.
In combination with the HMGP grant, Santa Rosa County has completed almost $10 million in drainage improvements.
