TALLAHASSEE — A Santa Rosa County jury convicted Terra Neshonda Carroll Jan. 9 of fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer in agency vehicle with lights and siren activated and at high speed and resisting an officer without violence.
Circuit Judge John Simon presided over the case and set sentencing for 1 p.m. Feb. 20. Carroll, a licensed attorney from South Florida, faces up to 15 years in state prison, state attorney Bill Eddins announced.
On Sept. 10, 2016, a civilian motorist reported a reckless driver, later identified as Carroll, driving in the bike lane along Highway 98 westbound in Navarre.
After being located by Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s deputies, Carroll led law enforcement in a high-speed pursuit along the highway, weaving in traffic, through red traffic signals, and nearly striking a pedestrian.
The pursuit ended after Carroll crossed the center median in Gulf Breeze proper, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes, and drove head-on into the cruiser of a Gulf Breeze Police officer.
Carroll refused to acknowledge the law enforcement officers surrounding her vehicle, so officers had to gain access to her and the car by breaking out the windows. Carroll was arrested without further incident.
The investigation and arrest were conducted by Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office and Gulf Breeze Police Department. Assistant State Attorney Amy Shea prosecuted the case.
