Open Gaetz Day Milton returns to Milton

Congressman Matt Gaetz will be in Milton Jan. 25 for "Open Gaetz Day."

Gaetz will start the day with a radio town hall at WEBY radio station, where he will take live callers. Then he will travel to the Santa Rosa Commission Chambers where he will honor Carnegie Medal recipient David Hammond, 64, of Gulf Breeze for saving Stephanie Wright, 47, from her burning home on July 28, 2016. The Carnegie Medal is given throughout the United States and Canada to those who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree while saving or attempting to save the lives of others. In 2017, 57 awardees were announced.

Following the medal presentation, Gaetz will make three school visits. At Russell Elementary, Gaetz will read a short book to students for ‘Literacy Week’ then tour a STEM learning lab. At Milton High School, Gaetz will check out various academies including aviation, information technology, manufacturing and culinary arts. At Hobbs Middle School, Gaetz will read a short book to students for ‘Literacy Week,’ and visit a U.S. history class. Also at each school, Gaetz will recognize the school’s teacher of the year.

The day will conclude at the Santa Rosa County Commission Chambers for mobile office hours with constituents.
