MILTON — Berryhill Elementary School is bracing for some riotous carryings-on when Mom’s Choice Award Winner Jason Edwards comes calling the week of Jan. 22.
In his Monster Hunt, based on concepts and characters from Edwards’ award-winning bestseller, "Will Allen and the Great Monster Detective," young adventurers learn deductive reasoning, cooperative learning and library research skills as they track down and decipher clues that lead them to a monster’s secret lair and instruct them how to capture it.
Kids use the library catalog and Dewey Decimal System to find books containing hidden clues; they decode secret messages, and they work together to collect information regarding the monster’s whereabouts.
Everyone has their own clues to find, so each child proceeds at his or her own pace. When enough clues are revealed, the kids share them to piece together and follow the trail that leads to the monster’s lair. Upon capture of the monster, all are rewarded by being commissioned as deputy detectives in the Monster Detective Agency.
