Heather Hathaway for city council

Milton City Councilwoman Heather Hathaway

MILTON — City Councilwoman Heather Hathaway is currently running for re-election for city council ward I.

Hathaway is a lifelong resident of Santa Rosa County. She graduated from the University of West Florida with a Bachelor’s in business administration. She currently works for the Santa Rosa County’s Tax Collector’s Office.

Hathaway was appointed to the council following former Councilwoman’s Ashley Lay’s resignation in 2017. She currently serves as head of the administration committee and has volunteered to serve on the housing committee.

Hathaway said she was surprised to be appointed but felt honored. She said she feels that since she has been appointed the council the city has been able to make progress. Hathaway said her goal is to move Milton in a more positive direction.

“Many people have come up to me and told me I am a breath of fresh air,” Hathaway said.

Hathaway said for the brief period she has been the ward’s representative, she has already seen businesses returning to the downtown area and some great things begin to take place for the city of Milton.

“It’s real. It’s measurable, and it’s growing,” she said. “From a new SplashPad at Carpenter’s Park, to alleviating traffic congestion on Highway 90 through downtown, to helping strengthen our Milton Police Department — I have big plans for what I hope to help accomplish if given the opportunity to continue to represent you.”

Hathaway said her platform is simple: lower impact fees, bring more businesses, get the city police force fully staffed. In short, she said, she wants to make Milton a great place to live — a kid friendly, positive community.

Hathaway said if re-elected she wants to have an open door-policy. She wants to work for the taxpayers.

“I am a very honest person. I am not going to tell you what you want to hear. I’m going to tell you the truth.” She said.

Hathaway is proud of all the candidates and council members serving the city, she said.

“I think it’s awesome that we have people who are willing to take time out of their day to go out and work for the people,” Hathaway said.

Hathaway said that on November 6 she wants all voters to go out and vote for the candidate they think is best.

“Look at their qualifications,” she said.

Hathaway said she is active on her Facebook page and is glad to answer any questions that anyone may have. Contact her through her facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/hathawayward1/.

Elections for city council and mayor will be held on Nov. 6.
