MILTON — The Santa Rosa County Commissioner Committee met Oct. 8. Here is a recap of the meeting.
PUBLIC HEARINGS
The purpose of the public meeting is twofold; to consider a recommendation to submit a grant application for Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program funds to make improvements to Swenson Park located at 1076 Circle Lane, Gulf Breeze, FL and to solicit public input and comments regarding the submission of the grant application and recreational facility needs for this park.
To date there have been two public hearings on this grant, one held on Sept. 24, with the Santa Rosa Shores homeowners association and Sept. 26, at the Parks Advisory Committee meeting. The last public hearing was today, there was no public input. Commissioners passed the proposed submission of the grant application.
Here is the preliminary budget and grant request for Swenson Park:
- Playground Improvements – $220,000
- Picnicking- $10,000
- Tennis courts – $50,000
- Basketball Courts – $50,000
- Fitness Equipment – $30,000
- Fitness Fun Zone/Play Court – $2,500
- Lighting – $5,000
- ADA Accessibility Upgrades – $32,500
- Total project upgrades $400,000
The grant application is for $200,000 with matching funds coming from District 5 recreation funds.
ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE
Events requests from L.E.A.D. Academy to utilize the Santa Rosa Horse Park for their annual Harvest Celebration and Rodeo scheduled for Nov. 16 and 17, were approved.
Margie Baldwin of the Pace Azalea Club requested to use the Pace Community Center for their annual elegant spring tea scheduled for March 3 and 4, 2019. Baldwin also asked for a waiver of the $485 rental fee. The BOCC approved both requests.
Triumph Grant Award for Whiting Aviation Park
The BOCC gave approval of grant agreement with Triumph Gulf Coast, Inc. in the amount of $8,523,655 for infrastructure improvements to 40 acres at Whiting Aviation Park, and authorization of Chairman to sign all relevant documents. As approved at the April 12th BOCC regular meeting, match will be provided from a combination of economic development franchise fee funds, defense reserve funds, and general funds in the amount of $1,794,720 as well as future economic development incentive packages totaling $1,300,000.
PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE
An RFP for part-time veterinary services at the Santa Rosa County Animal Services did not receive any bids. The BOCC approved Brad Baker, director of public safety, to enter into negotiations with individual veterinarians to provide the service.
The commissioner’s regular meeting scheduled for Wednesday Oct. 10, is now tentatively scheduled due to Tropical Storm Michael.
