Gulfport man charged with DUI in fatal traffic accident

MILTON — A Biloxi woman is dead and a Gulfport man is behind bars charged with DUI manslaughter following an Oct. 23 car accident, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

David Owen Jr., 47, was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 with three other passengers in the vehicle. The report said the truck was travelling east on I-10 approaching the Avalon Blvd. exit when he failed to negotiate the off ramp and ran off the roadway.

The vehicle overturned, the report said, and ejected 36-year-old Shannon Rings. She was pronounced deceased at Sacred Heart Hospital.

According to the report, Rings was not wearing a seatbelt. The other two passengers, 46-year-old Edward Gamard and 48-year-old Jane Gamard, both of Gulfport, received minor injuries.
