PACE — Pace High School is celebrating homecoming the entire week. All activities lead to the big game against Pensacola Catholic High School this Friday Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m.
According to Wikipedia, the tradition of homecoming started in 1911 and is credited to the University of Missouri. Before and during the game alumni were encouraged to attend. It was the first annual homecoming centered on a parade and a football game.
Today, almost all high schools and universities celebrate the tradition. Usually the game is played after a long road trip or a series of away games. It involves the pageantry of nominating a homecoming queen, and in most schools a king. The culmination of the week is the game usually scheduled against a weaker opponent, or a smaller school to ensure a victory for the home team. The last event is the first formal dance of the school year.

The Pace High School Student Government Association will also hold a parade from Norris Road, to Pace Patriot Blvd to the football field. The parade starts in front of the school and warps around the campus ending at the football field. The parade features The Pride of the Red White and Blue band, class floats, police, fire trucks, football players, ROTC color guards, Hadji Shriners, American Twirlers, robotics and the Pace dance team. There will also be bead throws, candy and dancing. It's scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. Line up starts at 5:30 p.m. at the parent pick-up location.
The parade will end at the football field, the location for the 3rd Annual Community Fall Festival. The festival, another SGA event, starts at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. There will be food, games, crafts and bounce houses.
Friday is game day at 7:30 p.m. Patriot stadium.
The homecoming dance concludes the activities for the week. The "Viva Las Vegas" themed dance is Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight at Pace High School. It will feature horse-and-carriage rides, escape rooms and more. Dance pictures start at 9 p.m. and a homecoming highlight video viewing at 10 p.m.
