Pace wins, crowns royalty and inducts nine into Hall of Fame

PACE — On a cool, crisp evening the Pace Patriots hosted Pensacola Catholic for their 2018 homecoming and beat them 54 to 24. Pace High also crowned the 2018 Homecoming king and queen; Jonah Cleveland and Shelia Burnett.

At halftime nine new members were inducted into the 2018 Bennett C. Russell Hall of Fame.

Seth Cumbie – 2000

  • Cumbie was 1st team All-State, playing in two All-Star football games.
  • Cumbie holds the Pace 200-meter record in track.
  • Cumbie played four bowl games and a conference championship at the USM in football.
  • Cumbie was captain his senior year at USM.

Vance Smith – 2008

  • Smith's football teams of 2005 and 2007 had a 14-win season.
  • Smith received a football scholarship to Auburn University and was a member of the 2010 National Championship team.
  • Smith was a graduate assistant in football at Auburn.

Drew Cumberland – 2007

  • Cumberland was 2005 1st Team All-State in football.
  • He was 1st Team All-State in 2006 – 2007.
  • Cumberland won a 2006 state baseball championship at Pace .
  • Cumberland was on the Baseball All American Team 2007.
  • He played in the Professional Baseball 2010 Futures Game prior to the All-Star Game.

Caleb Gindl – 2007

  • Gindl was Baseball All-American 2006-2007.
  • He was the Pensacola News Journal hitter and pitcher of the year in 2006 – 2007.
  • He played on the 2007 Baseball State Championship team.
  • Gindl was drafted in the 5th round by the Milwaukee Brewers, making the 2007 Baseball America Rookie All-Star Team.
  • Gindl was the first Brewer in franchise history to hit a walk off home run.
  • Gindl currently plays for the San Francisco Giants.

Riley Hawkins – 2008

  • Hawkins was a Three-time 1st team all area wide receiver, 2-time 1st team All-State and PNJ Offensive Player of the Year
  • He holds the 100-meter and triple-jump records.
  • Hawkins was the three-time all-conference wide receiver and All-American return specialist at Samford.

Haley Millsap Italia – 2008

  • Italia was a Pace Setter winner.
  • Italia was a state runner-up in golf 2006 – 2007.
  • She was the USGA Jr. Golf Champion in 2005 – 2007.
  • She received a golf scholarship to the University of Mississippi.
  • She earned her LPGA Professional Tour card in 2013 and participated in the 2015 USGA U.S. Woman’s Open Championship in 2015.

Chris Sorce – 2006

  • Sorce was a two-time Louisville Slugger All-American, leading Pace to the 2006 state championship.
  • Sorce was 2nd team All-State in football.
  • He made the first team All-Sun Belt Conference at Troy.
  • He was a 26th round draft pick in the Major League draft.

Salina Parham – 1995

  • Parham received an honorable mention All-State and 2nd team All-Northwest Florida in volleyball.
  • In basketball Parham was 2nd team All-State and played in the North/South All Star Game.
  • In softball, she was 1st team All Northwest Florida, PNJ 2nd Team and Best Offensive and Defensive Player.
  • Parham received a softball scholarship to Tallahassee Community College earning 1st Team All Panhandle Conferences Honors. 

Rachel Overstreet Wade – 2002

  • Wade is Pace's all-time scorer in soccer and member of four PNJ all-area teams.
  • She is a two-time member of the PNJ all-area track team.
  • She was the PSA Golfer of the Year, 4-time PNJ 1st team, 3-time district champion and 2-time regional champion.
  • She lettered in golf at LSU.
  • She was an Academic All-American for four years at UCF.
