MILTON — Milton City Council recognized five city employees for dedicated services at the Nov. 13 city council meeting.

The first four to be recognized were employees who were sent out in response to Hurricane Michael. Mayor Wesley Meiss said these individuals assisted in the neighboring counties after a request was sent out seeking assistance.

Milton Fire Chief John Reble read a letter of accommodation for firefighter Ben Stockdale and Capt. Jim Custard, who accepted a request made by Washington County to go and be a part of a search and rescue team for five days.

"There efforts are a credit to Milton Fire Department," Reble said. "Thank you for your consistent support."

Reble said these letters of accommodation would go into each of the firefighter's personnel files and be recorded with the City of Milton.

Public Works Director Joe Cook spoke for public work employees Freddie Lepley and Adam Floyd, who voluntarily agreed to go to Panama City to clear roadways. The two recipients could not attend the meeting in person and the council said they would be looking into another to awarding them their recognition in person.

Meiss presented Stephen Prestesater, events coordinator for Main Street Milton, with a special recognition for his work coordinating Main Street Milton with special attention to the recent Rhythm and Ribs Festival held in Milton.

City manager Randy Jorgenson said that the event was not an easy event to carry off and that Prestesater had done a great job with the vendors and overall coordination of the event, ensuring it's success.
