I am ashamed of my President

Dear editor,

I am an "old fart" and I wear that label with pride.

I was born in the depths of the Great Depression to parents who spoiled me rotten. I have voted in every election since 1956, when I voted for Eisenhower. While I have always had leanings towards the Democrats, most of the people I voted for were Republicans who I knew.

I made it a point to know, or know about, every candidate for every office, from the President to the County Drain Commissioner. I even met most of the local candidates. At that time, I voted for those who I felt were best qualified for the post they were seeking. Usually, that was not difficult.

When the Korean Conflict took place, I served with pride in the United States Army.

Now, I see that my President, Donald J. Trump, refused to visit the cemetery where many American troops were buried. He flew to Europe in one of the finest executive airplanes in the world. Yet, he could not arrange to have a rain coat and a hat so he could visit a cemetery of fallen American soldiers on a rainy day. Because he did not go to the cemetery, he dishonored the American Dead. Apparently, his hair would have gotten wet.

He may have been more concerned about how the American public was reacting to the latest reports of how, in the final moments before his election as President, he personally supervised the payment of hush money to women with whom he had sex. It is well known that he blatantly lied about paying those women.

This "old fart" is ashamed of this president for many reasons, not the least of which is his disrespecting our fallen soldiers.
