LEAD Academey hosts rodeo fundraiser

PACE — LEAD Academy hosted its second Harvest Celebration and first Professional Cowboy Association rodeo Nov. 16 – 17.

The festivities started with a breakfast honoring veterans with guest speaker retired Col. Wayne Forbush. The Harvest Celebration had a variety of family oriented activities for festival patrons. There were wagon rides, bounce houses, slides and pony rides for children. There was also food and western product vendors. The event featured a main stage with live music throughout the day.

One of the most anticipated events this year was the crowning of the Golden Buckle King and Queen of the Rodeo Pageant. LEAD Academy asked local assisted living facilities to participate by nominating a male and female for the pageant. There were eight total participants for the pageant and the winners came from the same facility – Santa Rosa Health and Rehab. Peggy Hurst and Steve Watson were crowned King and Queen of the rodeo.

The celebration and rodeo is one of two major fundraising projects for the school. An annual golf tournament in the summer is the other. The Harvest Celebration and Rodeo organizers hoped to raise $100,000 with this year’s event. The money will be used specifically for the Agriculture Science Program at the new school site on Joppa Road. No figures were available for this year’s event by press time.
