MILTON — The Santa Rosa County Sherriff’s Office welcomed two new recruits to their department today with the addition of two hound dog puppies.
Sheriff Bob Johnson held a press conference introducing the puppies as well as a naming competition which is being held on the SRSO Facebook page. The competition will be held till Friday when the best names will be picked. The winner of the competition will get to send time with the puppies Johnson said at the conference. One of the puppies are male and one is female.
Johnson said that these blood hounds were a great addition to the county.
“Department of corrections normally does the blood hound work in the county,” Johnson said. “And we used to have to call them [when we needed them].”
Johnson said with the addition of the blood hounds on the force the SRSO would be able be completely self sufficient for tracking and searching.
“They’re the best trackers,” Johnson said.
Johnson said the idea for getting the blood hounds was thanks to Major Randy Tift and Deputy Robert Lenzo, both of whom had worked in correctional facilities in the past.
