MILTON — Since taking office, Milton's first female mayor, Heather Lindsay, has had many ideas that she feels will make the city a better place to live. They cover staff and council education, working with local business and the wastewater treatment plant project.
In her first council meeting, Lindsay said she wants to have workshops and training for the council and city staff on ethics and how the city works. She also said she wanted city staff to continuously be fully updated on how the city is spending its tax dollars.
"One thing I really value about the city is how there is a process for city staff to educate council," she said, "and for council to ask city staff to further study items that need to be studied so that before decisions are made, elected officials are well educated on those items.”
Lindsay said that there will be several projects that she and the council will be working on in early 2019. Beginning in January, Lindsay said the council will be forming a merchants association, which will be comprised of and work with local businesses to get their input on what will help the city's economic growth.
"Ricky Downs with Badcock [Home] Furniture will be working with me on that," Lindsay said.
Lindsay said council is advocating for funding for the infrastructure project on the wastewater treatment facility, which Lindsay had previously said would be a high priority for her during her campaign.
Also on the mayor's to-do list is reviewing the results of the study for the proposed expansion for highway 90, which she said should be coming back in early February.
