LETTER: Always be alert and aware

Dear editor,

Already there have been 18 school shootings this year. Sad indeed! How many guns were found at schools and how many arrests were there?

It’s too close to home for me. My grandchildren attend Ruckel Middle School in Niceville. Recently, television news reported a 15-year old was arrested for bringing a gun to school. On February 15, mention of it was made again.

I immediately called my loved ones asking what they did when they heard. "G’ma Yaya, we prayed," they said. It was a blessing to me. They’re Christians.

After advising them to always be alert and aware of their surroundings I prayed with each of them. I told them to lie down and play dead if sensing something similar to Parkland’s goings on. Some were saved by playing dead at Columbine and other schools, praise God.

The bottom line is we’re not safe anywhere anymore – only in the arms of Jesus so-to-speak.

Now, will people realize the urgency, priority of preparing for eternity, of being "saved" (Romans 10: 9-10), selling out to Jesus Christ (John 3:7) as Lord and Savior who insures us of Heaven not hell?

My heart aches for Parkland’s victims and families. Perhaps many, or all, were ready to meet their Maker, consolation for those left behind, candidates for Holy Spirit comforting as only He can.

All believers, ambassadors for Christ, should intensify efforts to execute their ministry of reconciliation, man to God, ignoring the "fanatic" labeling.

Fanatics for Jesus, bless our soon coming King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Hallelujah.

God bless us all as only He can.
