MILTON — The Milton city council honored a local restaurant Saturday when it awarded the Blackwater Bistro with the Clayton White Business of the Quarter Award.
The city gives this award every quarter to a Milton business for the contributions it has made to the city. The business receives an engraved trophy and will keep the city’s Business of the Quarter sign in the front of the building for three months.
City councilman Jeff Snow recommended the Bistro for the award at the Jan. 8 city council meeting saying it had been a longtime asset to the city.
Mayor Heather Lindsay said Bistro employees care about everyone who comes in. She said it represents the "mom and pop" image Milton tries to maintain.
"We are proud to recognize [the Bistro]," she said.
Council presented the award Saturday to coincide with the Bistro's 10th anniversary.
Paul Kilmartin, Bistro owner, said he was honored to receive the award.
"Smiles and laughs have been had," he said. "Tears both happy and sad have been shared. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping Pam and I make the Bistro what it is today."
According to the Bistro's website, the building was constructed as a private home for Dr. James McBride Sharit. In 2008 Kilmartin and his wife Pam purchased the building before opening the restaurant in January of 2009.
