For those looking to get outside and enjoy the cooler temps and the plethora of activities our area has to offer, there are multiple opportunities in October.
The annual Munson Heritage Festival is a good place to start. On Oct. 9 and 10, Munson will bring families back to the good old days, when life was neither mechanized nor computerized. Visitors will enjoy treats that are homemade and goods that are handmade. The festival will feature food, crafts, and music provided by local vendors that will showcase the unique culture of Northwest Florida.
Sweet Season Farms Corn Maze and U-Pick Pumpkins will hold their 13th annual event on Saturdays and Sundays from now through Nov. 7. Sweet Seasons owner Trent Matthew said that he and his wife, along with their four children, opened their farm to the public 13 years ago with a corn maze.
“We’re a hay and cattle farm,” Matthews said. “We grow 8 to 10 acres of corn for our cattle, and after the maze is closed, we harvest the corn and sunflowers for our cattle. We love to show the public what farm life is like, and offer them an opportunity to spend an afternoon on a working farm.”
Holland Farms is another local farm that opens its doors to the public this time of year with a maze, hayride, pumpkin patch, and a variety of activities that will please all ages. Holland Farms offers free homegrown boiled peanuts to all visitors.
The West Florida Railroad Museum in Bagdad will hold a Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 9. It will include tours of the museum, historical presentations, model train displays, and the kids’ riding train. Dadgum Good BBQ and Snowbiz shaved ice will be there providing treats.
Music is also on the fall menu.
Bands on the Blackwater continues every Friday night at Riverfront Park through Oct. 29.
If you’re a bluegrass fan, don’t miss Bluegrass in the Woods at the Sunburst RV Resort on Oct. 9. This event will feature music, s’mores around the campfire, and plenty of toe tapping. Cabins and tent sites are available for overnighters.
