NAVARRE — Construction to reduce flooding at the entrance of Sunrise Drive in Navarre will begin March 5 with the installation of the traffic control measures. This project, funded with Local Option Sales Tax dollars, is designed to help prevent impassable flooding from the ponds located on either side of Sunrise Drive following extended or intense rainfall events.

When completed, the surface of Sunrise Drive will be raised by approximately 2.5 feet.

Two reader boards will be placed along Highway 98 eastbound and westbound Feb. 23 alerting drivers "Sunrise Drive closed 3/5/2018." The boards will remain onsite during the construction process.

The project was permitted through the Florida Department of Transportation and, by contract, has a 90-day completion time. However, due to the importance of this major thoroughfare, the contractor will attempt to complete the project before the deadline, according to Santa Rosa County officials.

Crews will be working 7 a.m to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. In the event of weekend work, times will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, contact Michael Schmidt, P.E., at 981-7100.
