LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Is it the canary in the coal mine?

Dear editor,

There have been two earthquakes locally, one in Jay, Fla. and one in Flomaton, Ala.

As someone who worked for the Bureau of Geology in Jay many years ago, I remembered that we have a fault in this area called the Foshee fault. That fault runs from the area of Brewton, Ala., down to us here in Milton. I also recalled that when we had a big oil strike years ago in Jay, it was estimated that we had almost 100 wells in the Jay field. In addition, a nitrogen injection plant was built in Flomaton in order to assist in the production of oil.

Could it be that these two earthquakes, which happened in close proximity and a day apart be the result of the same cause?

Are they a warning of more to come?

Is anyone investigating the cause?

Are the monthly production reports from Tallahassee showing increased production?

Where are the environmental activists?

Too many lives are at stake for this to be ignored. Let’s pay attention to that canary.
