Catching for a Cure bass tournament to help two-year-old

MILTON — The Catching for a Cure charity bass tournament is scheduled. Proceeds will go to the family of Jase Murphy, a two-year-old diagnosed with B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Registration is at 3:30 a.m. March 23 at Carpenter's Park South, Munson Highway, Milton. The fishing will begin at safe daylight. Weigh-in is at 2 p.m.

The tournament, March 23 includes an 11 a.m. barbecue lunch of pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans, dessert and a drink for $8 a plate.

The tournament entry fee is $75 per person, which covers lunker. Organizers will provide the permits for the tournament.

Cash prizes in the tournament are: $1,000, first place; $750, second place; $500, third place; $400, fourth place; $300, fifth place; $200, sixth place; $150, seventh place; and $100, eight place. There is also a $500 lunker prize and $100 mystery weight prize.

It will be followed by an auction and a raffle for a Browning A5 12-gauge with Dura Touch Mossy Oak Bottomland finish (a $1,500 value). Cost is $10 a ticket.

One of the event's organizers, Jason Barry, said, "These tournaments have become a passion of ours, and we thoroughly enjoy being able to help people in need. This tournament will most definitely be the biggest one on Blackwater River to date, with some of the biggest names in the fishing and outdoors industry sponsoring."
