PACE — Construction crews are building new restaurants, a new senior living facility, a new emergency medical facility and a new car wash in the Milton-Pace area.
Existing buildings are also getting facelifts. A renovated thrift shop at 4371 5th Ave. is now the location of Philly's Cheesesteaks & Hoagies. The small local franchise that originated in Pensacola opened on March 1.
"We have been very busy," said owner Ross Calloway. "The people of Pace have been very good to us."
Heading south and turning right on Woodbine Road, there is the Santa Rosa Medical Center free-standing Emergency Department. It is located directly behind the Raceway gas station at the intersection of Highway 90 and Woodbine Road. The structure will be a full-service emergency department equipped with radiology, laboratory and other emergency service lines. The department is scheduled to open in early summer, according to a medical center spokesperson.
Nearly 4 miles north on Woodbine Road is an intersection known as Five Points. A picturesque plot of land with large trees, where Woodbine Road turns into Chumuckla Highway and intersects Berryhill Road, is the future site of the Canopy Senior Living facility. The Canopy will consist of 64 assisted living and memory care units. Completion of the project is scheduled for fall, according to www.thecanopyliving.com.
A popular stretch of Highway 90 for fast-food restaurants will soon get another chain eatery. A Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is being built beside the Advanced Auto Parts at 4537 Highway 90, according to county tax records. Construction is progressing quickly but developers have not given a completion date.
Proceeding east on Highway 90 towards Milton, there is another construction site next to Murphy's Express. That is the location of a new car wash called Tidal Wave Auto Spa. Tidal Wave has locations in Georgia and the Carolinas and has recently started moving into the Florida and Alabama markets, according to the company website. No completion date has been given.
The last site is in front of Lowe's home improvement store. That location will be the site of a new Sonny's BBQ restaurant and an IHOP. Both establishments will open in August, said Susan Brady, director of marketing for ACG BBQ, LLC.
