Pace beats Milton 7-0 on refurbished tennis courts

PACE — For the second time this year the Pace Patriots have hosted a visiting team on their refurbished tennis courts.

The visitors were the Milton High School Panthers. Pace beat Milton 7- 0, for both boys’ and 7-0, for the girls’ teams — maybe it was the new courts.

The Patriots have been practicing at Milton High School's tennis facilities for over two months while their courts were under repair.

"Cracks were found in the courts and they were deemed unplayable by county inspectors," said Tim Dillashaw, Pace girls head coach.

The issue was erosion of the subsoil underneath the courts said Tim Wyrosdick superintendent of schools. The school board arranged and paid for repairs at a cost of $455,000. Work on the courts finished just before spring break.

"Pace has a very good team. I think they're number two in our district," said James New, head coach for boys and girls teams at Milton.

"Our boys are very young. We will be doing a lot of off-season work," said New. The girls’ team is doing a little better winning two more matches than the boys.

"We are building something good and hope to be more competitive next year," said New.

Six miles away, Pace's girls coach Tim Dillashaw expects the boys and girls teams will be competitive at districts and regionals.

Dillashaw said his girls’ team lost two matches and are having a good season. He is expecting more out of them next year; they will only lose one player at graduation.

"The players to watch on the girls’ side are Bri Abams, Emma Price, Sarah Rabinowtz and Lauren Lacsamana" said Dillashaw. All four of those girls are juniors and returning next year.

The Pace boys coach Chad Cage was not available but coach Dillashaw filled in for him.

"The boys are also young. Of the top six boys players three of them are freshmen," Dillashaw said.

The players to watch on the boys’ team are Austin Firestone, James Richardson, Parker Fell, A. J. Bornino, Jacob Richardson and Jack Coco.
