S.S. Dixon Intermediate School will host its Third Annual Kids Marathon Final Mile Celebration at 5:30 p.m. April 18 at the Dixon Intermediate P.E. Fields and Country Mile Track.
The Final Mile Celebration will feature a guest speaker, a visit from Kazoo, the Blue Wahoos mascot, DJ/emcee duties from Michael Fletcher and Hartman Photography will be on site to document the kids as they cross the finish line. A giveaway of prizes donated by area businesses will also take place throughout the evening.
The main event of the evening will be the more than 230 students running their final mile to complete their marathon mileage. Each student participating previously completed 25.2 miles over six weeks. Families were encouraged to run/walk with their student during the mileage logging period to help promote family fitness and parent involvement.
“Our main goal with this event was for students and their families to get fit together,” said event organizer and SSDI physical education teacher Michelle Keller. “We hope that over the course of the six weeks, exercise has become a family activity staple that will continue after the final mile has been completed.”
S.S. Dixon Intermediate School was founded in 1994 in Pace and currently houses more than 900 students in grades 3–5.
