PACE – Community oriented Azalea Garden Club of Pace will start its new garden club year with outreach to local residents through their “Welcome to Gardening” social introduction event and membership drive.
The event is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Pace Fire Station, 4773 Pace Patriot Blvd.
The welcoming social begins at 12:30 p.m. A fun and interesting program on plants will take place from 1:30-2:30 p.m., with a relaxed question and answer period to follow.
Pace has experienced tremendous growth with new housing developments. Hundreds, if not thousands, have moved into the local area.
Most new homeowners are excited at the prospects of landscaping their yard to beautify their homes, but may wonder what types of plants will do well to beautify their yards while protecting and maximizing their investment.
The Panhandle of Florida is unique in its weather and soil impact on plants. What worked well in the past in other places may not do well here beyond its first complete year.
This is where Azalea Garden Club can help. Combined, the club has novice, seasoned, expert and even professional gardening club members who regularly share their knowledge and gardening successes with others.
The club meets every second Monday of the month from August through May. It is an after-lunch group with light snacks, concentrating mostly on the fun and interesting programs.
Monthly, the club offers educational topics valuable to gardeners and even fun field trips. Hands-on workshops give direct DIY instructions on decorative projects and floral arrangements and design.
The garden club was created in 2015 to specifically address the gardening needs of the residents in the Pace area. Varied programs of interest are available throughout this upcoming garden club year.
Learning opportunities through classroom, field trips, flower shows, parties and workshops keeps involvement varied and interesting. The group's outreach to children with the Kids Day in the Park has received national recognition with opportunities to volunteer based on members' comfort and availability.
Azalea Garden Club is a friendly club with helpful people. For questions or if you want to learn more about gardening, attend the kick-start social and consider joining the club.
