Free Boater Safety Class
The Blackwater Pyrates will host a fun, interactive, and informative boater safety class Aug. 26 and 27 at the Milton Fire Station, 5321 Stewart St. The class, which normally costs $35, will be free for the first 40 local resident's who sign up. State residents born later than 1988 should have a boater's license for any vessel with more than 10 horsepower. Taking the class satisfies Florida

Charity golf tournament rescheduled
The third annual Weekend Food Program Charity Golf Tournament originally scheduled for August has been moved to Oct. 25.
The event is 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 25 at The Club at Hidden Creek, 3070 PGA Blvd., Navarre.
Funds raised are used to feed over 450 Navarre children each week of the school year. For more information, contact Michelle Abrams, 229-938-1821.
Free food giveaway
The King's Harvest and Cornerstone Christian Church will give away 65,000 pounds of food free of charge to Santa Rosa County residents. Registration (only one person per address) opens at 3 p.m. Sept. 1 and Oct. 2, with distribution starting at 5 p.m. at the church, 14047 Alabama St., Jay. Bring identification to register.

Juana's Pagoda's events
Juana's Pagodas and Sailors' Grill, 1451 Navarre Beach Causeway, Navarre, will host the following events.
•The 12th annual Rubber Duck Derby and Mullet Toss is noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 2 at Juana's. The family-friendly event has a $300 first place prize. There will also be a cardboard boat regatta at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $5 each or 6 for $25. Mullet Toss costs $1 per toss. The duck derby begins at 3 p.m. and awards are at 4 p.m. Email contact@nkoj.org or purchase tickets the day of the race. All proceeds benefit the Navarre Krewe of Jesters Scholarship Fund and the Navarre Beach Mardi Gras Parade.

Republican Club of Santa Rosa County meeting
The Republican Club's next meeting is 6 p.m Sept. 3 at Bistro 98, 5248 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze. Doors open at 5:30 for attendees to order a "Dutch Treat (pay as you go) dinner. The featured speaker is Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson.
Navarre Beach Coastal Cleanup
Keep Santa Rosa Beautiful will participate in the International Coastal Cleanup in Santa Rosa County. Hours are 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 21 at Navarre Beach. Participants will meet at the pavilion east of the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier. Bring water and wear a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Trash bags will be provided. Tobacco cessation class
Tobacco Free Florida will have a Tools to Quit class 5-7 p.m. Nov. 29 and Dec. 13 at 5527 Stewart St., Milton. Preregistration is required. Call 398-6965 to reserve a spot. The class is free. For those 18 years old, if medically appropriate, the Florida Department of Health offers free nicotine replacement patches, lozenges and gum. It also offers free community, worksite and clinic groups.
Blackwater Literary Journal seeks poems
The Santa Rosa County Writers’ Guild seeks poems for Issue IV of the Blackwater Literary Journal. For a limited time, the guild will accept poetry from county residents. To be considered, the poems should be pasted into the body of an email sent to SRCWG@mediacombb.net.
Florida Friendly Landscaping Principles Class
Learn about the right timing and methods for fertilizing and weed control, proper irrigation, and other lawn practices from Mary Salinas, Santa Rosa County Extension Office. No pre-registration is required.
