On behalf of the Blackwater River Correctional Facility in Milton and GEO Group, Inc., the Milton’s facility’s warden Scott Middlebrooks recently attended a Santa Rosa County School Board meeting in order to donate $20,000 towards the school district for scholarships.
While being part of the GEO Group, Inc.’s correctional and dentition management and community reentry services, Middlebrooks said the correctional facility continues “a long standing tradition” for supporting area schools and community-involvement.
Last year, the correctional facility donated $10,000 in scholarship funding for students through a essay contest in which ten Santa Rosa County students received $1,000 in scholarships.
Middlebrooks also said the correctional facility has also donated towards the Kid’s Tag Art program, which is sponsored by the Santa Rosa County Tax Collector’s Office.
The correctional facility plans to continue partnering with the school district and other government agencies in the near future, Middlebrooks said.
Santa Rosa County School Superintendant Tim Wyrosdick is very appreciative of the donation.
“Santa Rosa County is thrilled to receive $20,000 from the GEO group to support students in Santa Rosa County Schools, Wyrosdick said in an email. “The donation will assist in providing grant in aide for students attending a variety of enrichment programs such as the Navarre Marine Science Station and the National Flight Academy.”
“Santa Rosa Schools are strong because of the continued partnership we have with business and community groups,” Wyrosdick added.
