SRSO: Jay man allegedly molests minor, solicits through cell phone app

According to reports, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Jay resident, Curtis Joshua Cannon, 27, on two counts of lewd and lascivious battery, one count of lewd or lascivious molestation, using a computer to lure a child, and transmitting harmful information to minors. Reports said the victim has known Cannon for two to three years and started dating him August of last year. Reports also indicated Cannon was married during the time the victim said she and Cannon dated.

On several occasions, reports described Cannon touching the victim inappropriately above her clothing before she pushed his hand away. He also tried to talk her into intercourse, to which she said no. Reports said she didn’t initially tell deputies about the uncomfortable, physical contact because she was scared. She said she was also scared, reports said, Cannon was driving by her house at night. Reports said, when asked if Cannon ever threatened to hurt her, she said no. These incidences happened near the barn by the victim’s house and inside Cannon’s truck, according to reports.

Deputies also searched a phone containing messages transmitted between the victim and Cannon, under his alias “cjcannon22.” Through the undisclosed application, Cannon repeatedly asked the victim for nude images, suggested the two run away when she goes to the gym, and engaged in explicit conversation. Reports said cjcannon22 also talked about his children and the two expressed love and the desire to marry. With the evidence on the phone, Cannon’s admission “cjcannon22” was in fact him, and his admission to the physical contact the victim reported, deputies arrested Cannon. Currently, Cannon has a $70,000 bond in Santa Rosa County Jail.
