Milton commuters traveling on State Road 87, or Stewart Street, may have noticed stalled construction work near the intersection of County Road 191, or Munson Highway.
According to Tanya Branton, public information specialist for Florida Department of Transportation, work on the right turning lane connecting to Munson Highway went into default after the contracting company tasked with the project did not comply with contract obligations.
In an email, Branton said the construction company, Purifoy Construction LLC in Cantonment, originally agreed to a contract worth $147, 084.23 and work began on the project on November 3rd of last year.
“The Department is currently working with the bonding company to complete the project in an expeditious manner,” Branton said.
Upon contacting Purifoy Construction, a spokesperson at the company said the default occurred due to financial issues.
