Pace Fire Rescue and the Santa Rosa County extension office of the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences is hosting a free child car seat checkup on March 14 at the Walmart Supercenter parking lot in Pea Ridge.
Certified child passenger safety technician will be on site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to make sure car seats for infants to children age 12 are correctly installed and will educate attendees on how to correctly install a car seat.
On site safety technicians will be available to do the following:
· Ensure car seats are age and size appropriate while reviewing factors affecting proper use.
· Examine car seat instructions with vehicle owner’s manual to ensure both are properly being followed.
· Ensure an appropriate seating position in the vehicle is being used.
· Check the car seat for recall notices, visible damage and expiration date.
· Watch car seat owner properly install car seat inside their vehicle using LATCH system or vehicle seat belts.
· Discuss with parents, guardians on when to attain next level of car seat for child.
According to a press release from the UF/IFAS office, as many as seven out of 10 children in child safety seats are not properly secured or buckled.
