Rep. Mike Hill attends Assembly of State Legislatures meeting in Washington, D.C.

On December 8th, 2014, State Representative Mike Hill (R-Pensacola) was one of eleven delegated from the State of Florida to meet in Washington, D.C., as participants in the Assembly of State Legislatures to discuss the form and function of a future Article V Convention. The mission of the Assembly of State Legislatures is “to work together as states, under the authority of Article V of the U.S. Constitution, to find solutions to the problems of our Country that are not being properly addressed by the federal government.”  The purpose of the Assembly “shall be to draft and define rules and procedures for and to conduct a convention of The States pursuant to Article V of The Constitution of the United States of America and to consider and act upon all other matters of relevance for such a convention.”

Representative Hill joined the Assembly of State Legislators at their planning meeting in Indianapolis in June, 2014.  He was assigned to the Planning, Communication & Finance Committee.

When recalling his latest trip to Washington, D.C., for the Assembly of State Legislatures meeting he said, “We made history! We passed the first By Laws in the history of the United States for a Constitutional Convention under Article V.”  In explaining his reason for participating, Rep. Hill mentioned, “I believe that it is our duty as citizens, and even more so as a Representative for Floridians, to send a clear message to the Federal Government that they are losing sight of the direction our Country needs to be heading. We as Americans, and individual statesmen, are given the right under The Constitution to address the needs and concerns of our Country as a whole through a Convention of the States. I am honored to have the opportunity to participate in the Assembly of State Legislatures to give Florida an active voice in the decisions made regarding a Convention now and in the future.”
