Worthless print about what commissioner said what

Dear Editor,

After reading the article, “Commission considers increasing gas tax” in the April 8 edition of the Santa Rosa Press Gazette, I wondered who failed to provide the Press Gazette with the “preliminary list of the needs.” Was it that Mr. Walker did not provide Mr. Little with a copy of the list or did Mr. Little think the list would not be important to the citizens of Santa Rosa County? I respectfully request the editor of the Santa Rosa Press Gazette obtain a copy of the list and publish it.

I’m especially interested to know what is important in the bike and pedestrian pathways category at $14.5 million dollars. Does anyone know if the term pedestrian pathways is a euphemism for sidewalks? I travel the north end of Santa Rosa County every day and rarely see anyone riding a bike. And why should they? There are miles of off road bike trails in Santa Rosa County. I do occasionally see a bike rider on Highway 90 but there’s already a bike lane there and usually the rider is a transient with bags hanging all over the bike and an individual that hasn’t seen a shower in a while. I’m also curious as to why it is important to add bike lanes. I don’t recall hearing about an accident involving a bike rider either on the local television or in any newspaper.

It is important for news reporters to dig and provide all the details. The April 8th article was another example of worthless print about what commissioner said what but lacking in any detail.
